Does anyone else every feel like July is one of the most unproductive months in the year? I am so NOT a summer girlie. I used to love the idea of "Summerween", but just without the summer part. I hate the longer days and the shorter nights. I feel like I never get anything done. As such, the desire to jump into the Halloween season has been strong within me. It's going to be a very early Autumn in my mind.

On June 30th, I was on the By Pumpkin's Light podcast for their Afterglow segment. I got to talk about my book and what potential upcoming book projects are. I was honored that Mike and Miranda asked me to participate. It was super fun to talk about my love of spiders and my publishing journey with someone able to respond and inquire into more. Mike and Miranda always ask such great questions and I've actually been playing catch up on their episodes every Sunday when I'm on my own at work. Definitely give them a listen if you haven't already!

On that note, work has been going really well. Although I don't really want to be working (but who does, really?), I'm feeling very good about where I'm at. It's like night and day from my last experience. Which makes me pretty happy. Also, I cannot argue with the pay. I am looking at having a pretty decent nest egg by next year to get my family into our own place, so long as the in-laws are ok with us being in their space for another year.

Life Occurrences & Creative Ventures— July 2026

July has been...kind of eventless? Full of intention, but with nothing to really report back on. After three weekend in a row going back and forth to my folks (about 2 hours each way), we spent these last two not doing much of anything. We did experience some fun events at the library for our littles. However, outside of that, I spent most of my free time with my nose in a book or forcing myself to put the books down to start plotting Halloween plans. We kind of needed the few weekends of nothing to recover. I say that, but I did spend this last Friday rearranging and deep cleaning the littles' room, which ended up taking the majority of the day. I was so sore through Monday, but it was worth it!

Going forward, I think Julys are going to be my no-post month. It's just too hot, too bright and too summery.

When I finally sat down to edit episode 67, I had the unpleasant discovery of terrible audio that could not be edited regardless of what I tried to do. However, I promise that episode 67 will come. This time, I'm serious. August will be haunted by two episodes. Episode 67 will be a "Hauntings Behind the Bar" vibe with a casual catch-up with Erick and I of what we've been trying to do with all the spirits since our last episode in March. Meanwhile, Episode 68 will be a 5 year anniversary episode. Can you believe we've sipped along on our podcast for five years?! Me neither. Cannot wait to pour into this episode with everyone!

I've been dreaming of October since June and I spent a good portion of this month trying to plot out my ideas in full. The Halloween bug bit early this year. But I'm partially placing blame on that gumball machine cutie to the left! I cannot wait to put him to use. Just look at that grin!

I do hope that this early bug doesn't make me feel burnt out when October actually rolls around. I'm thinking that mostly, I'm having attendee envy with Midsummer Scream. With my new job, we decided against attending. Although I know it was a wise choice, I'm still feeling that need to prep for it with it looming around the corner. What's a ghoul to do? I'm focusing on looking forward to attending Creep It Real in September!

While I battled against my desire to go to all the events everywhere, I focused on bouncing back and forth from my Milanote and a physical notebook to jot down all my ideas and I'm feeling super pumped for my ideas. I still have a few more days of the month and I feel like I can totally finalize those ideas and then start actually working on them next month to have ready in time for October. It doesn't look like much, but I've actually done quite a bit in regards to piecing together and finalizing all the ideas. I love how Milanote can really be used in your own way, you don't have to follow their set format and I love how I can color code everything. I don't use images as much as I probably should, but look at that candy corn colored scheming! I'm in love and it gets me excited and inspired whenever I open up this board to work on it.

For the next couple newsletters, the behind the cobwebs are most likely going to be sneak peeks into what I'm doing for my Halloween blogging and what Sips & Spirits will be doing. Like these logo ideas for my main idea. Yup! Candy Corn Crew is coming back with a new vibe this October and I cannot wait to get this project going.
