What else is new? This newsletter is running a week late. Last Monday, I was in a car accident. A car and my scooter made a right angle and my scooter crumpled at the attempt. Full transparency, I am ok. Had some bruises which are mostly cleared up now, no scrapes and my favorite skirt I was wearing when it happened washed out to look like new. What more could I ask for?

The weirdest part? I don't think I was ever "scared" during or after the ordeal. I was more upset about being late for work and my skirt potentially being ruined. I am also in disbelief that I wasn't more injured. When I stood up from the ground, I was expecting my skirt to be in tatters and my hands just as much so. But none of this turned out to be true and I'm ever so grateful. However, I AM a bit over talking about it, but I wanted to be transparent. I needed to take a mental break from just about everything the rest of the week and couldn't get my head in the game creatively to get the newsletter done last Wednesday. When all is said and done, talking about it further feels so round about and useless. So, I'm doing my due diligence to let you know it happened, but talking about it just mentally and physically drains me at this point so if you can refrain from further inquires about it, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise, I have little to complain about in August. I made a random impromptu trip to attend Midsummer Scream at the last of possible moments, got back into the rhythm of school with Monster and Boo, and enjoyed another Member's night at the Aquarium.

Life Occurrences & Creative Ventures— August 2026

|
|
|
August has been sprinkled with several unplanned going-ons and although busy, it has been delightful. We explored a new state park near us and uncovered several new eateries to enjoy near us. Plus, I blogged about attending Midsummer Scream unplanned, stayed aboard the Queen Mary and enjoyed the fishes leisurely with the convenience of an aquarium member's night. I'm not sure August ever stopped with it's momentum, but there is a little stress that it's over already! September is here, which makes me feel like I'm not quite ready for October.

August Highlight: Midsummer Scream 2026

I know. I know. I said I wasn't going to go, but I couldn't help myself! I booked a night at the Queen Mary (an experience which deserves it's own blog post soon!) and drove down Friday morning to enjoy both Friday and Saturday at Midsummer Scream. It was such a quick trip that I don't feel like I quite got to capture everything I could have, but it was such a needed escape.

I would not have gone if my husband hadn't convinced me and I am so glad I did. I got to see so many spooky friends and vendors I might have missed and it was just overall, a delightful time. Read even more about it on the blog!

...we celebrated 5 years of sipping spirits on the podcast! Episode 67 was full of fun reflecting on everything we have done in the past 5 years, despite our podcast rhythm changing and our many hiatuses. It was fun to look back on everything. Then, to top it off, we jumped onto Instagram Live to celebrate as well.

On that note, we are trying to make Instagram Lives more easy for us through the Sips & Spirits account. And to do that, we need your help! As of today, we're a little under 200 followers away from hitting Instagram's stupid requirement of 1000 followers to host Lives, even though we had access to this before. We shared a post on this in our feed and if you could comment on that post or share it, we would be forever thankful!

At this point, my brain could not decide if I should focus on October blog projects or costume/outfit plans for Creep It Real happening in September. So it kind of bounced back and forth between both!
|
|
|
I did spend way too much time one weekend working on plans for a family costume that ended up getting pushed back to another time that isn't going to be Creep It Real and I got to plotting my vintage Halloween look to wear to it instead. I'm still very much working it all out, but this orange dress has been begging to get the Halloween treatment and I'm loving how it's coming together so far. I designed the little witch crows on Illustrator then threw them into my Cricut for cutting out. I think I'm also going to add the bead trim to the sleeves and swap the belt for a black one. What do you think?

Kind of realizing I need to put a little more focus into final Creep It Real prep over this coming weekend as it will probably be the last one I have time to work on stuff. My mom will have the kids and I need to make sure I'm not distracting myself since I still need to sew something together for my son. I don't want him to be disappointed that I didn't get his stuff together.

Meanwhile, my blog idea for the Halloween countdown is coming along just as envisioned. I am so stoked with how everything is coming together. Just have to do some script refining and then I think I'll be in a great spot to share more come end of September. Yay!

It's crazy to think that I might actually be ready to sit in front of the mic to record my plans very soon. I really hope it gives the vibes I am trying to achieve when I finally hit "record". To share briefly, since I am confident this idea WILL actually play out, I am creating a weekly radio show with 5 episodes total, one for each Saturday in October. Think of it being similar in style to Little Orphan Annie's 1936 radio show and Kay Kaiser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge. I really wanted this project to feel like the golden age radio shows, with a Halloween vibe. It's taken some refining and some of my initial plans have changed, but I think it has all moved in the right direction. I cannot wait to reveal even more in September's newsletter!
