The Gossamer Gossip

Finally feeling that spooky spirit...

Salutations Subscriber,
After that doozy of a newsletter in July, I am looking out from a brighter place in my web and very much looking forward to gossiping with you today.
At the start of August, I got a rare moment all to myself. My littles were having a sleepover with my mom and Erick was off dealing with a family emergency. I decided to give myself a me day by working on my stained glass window project then dressing up for an evening at the Winchester Mystery House. I was a little dejected by the results of my window painting, but I picked myself back up and here I am, excited and eager to create once more.
On top of that, this past Friday marked the end of that 8-week summer program that's been eating up all my time. For now, my job IS continuing, although I'm not sure what my exact hours will be. I am hoping they will leave me free in the afternoons following school pickups with Little Monster. This promises to leave lots of time for Halloween creation and decorating!
Speaking of creating, I'm really getting pumped for some of the things I have planned for the blog countdown this year. A LOAD of my favorite Halloween things are celebrating big milestones and I'm going all out to celebrate. Expect a kind of mini party each week in theme. AND! I have a couple giveaways that I didn't get to follow through on last year. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information on those in my next newsletter.
As for decorating, to maintain my enthusiasm, I tried not to break it out too early this year. I have noticed that if I start Halloween decorating in early August (I have some spooky items that stay out all year, but I'm talking about when it starts to become all vintage and black and orange), I tend to be ready to pack it up once the final week of October comes around. However, two weekends ago, we were taking Lil' Boo around the different stores to see if we could find some Halloween stuff to look at. We were rather fruitful in our hunts, but the thing that got my ghoulish gears grinding was this adorable hanging ghost holding a pumpkin that I picked up from World Market. I don't usually like this kind of decor, but something about him really stole my heart!
Gleeful ghost in the window
This led to last weekend where I promised Lil' Boo the opening of a Halloween box or two. It was like popping the top of a soda when your parched. I couldn't stop myself and now our dining room space is a cozy autumnal wonderland. Although my phone's camera is NOT doing it justice in the photo below. I think it might be time to break out my G7 and hone my photography skills...

We still have other spaces to decorate, but what is up now is just enough to give a reprieve from the stresses of work and the melatonin I've been starving for after living through Summer. Plus, Erick and I are starting to work on plans for our front yard display that I'm quite looking forward to. It should make these next two months quite fun once we're off the clock. I'm excited! Are you excited? Have you started decorating yet?
Lastly, we're counting down the days to Creep It Real OC on September 14th and 15th. As I mentioned in a previous gossip, we decided to sub Creep It Real for Midsummer Scream and I'm excited to attend for the first time ever. Plus the theme sounds really fun! You can bet I'm going to be gracing the event with my little black dress with that plunging neckline as every tricker's favorite treat. 😽
I'll be sure to report on in after Creep It Real and let you know how the weekend turns out. Until then!

Painted Stained Glass Progress

Stained glass progress
I did an Instagram Live while I worked on my stained glass window and it felt kind of obvious how dejected I was getting as it progressed. I started off rather optimistic, but once I started painting, it wasn't coming out how I wanted.
Luckily, I decided to step away and revise my approach. After returning from Winchester, I pulled out a giant acrylic board I had in our garage and tried again and the results were much better!
As you can see in the photo above, it's really coming to life. Now, I just need to get some more colors and I can finally bring this project to fruition.

A Solo Me Date at Winchester

As I mentioned above, I decided to use some of my alone time to take myself on a date to Winchester Mystery House. Since I haven't had the opportunity to go as often as last year, it felt like the perfect outing.
I donned my giant swishy cobweb skirt and dolled myself up. Then I packed myself a little charcuterie sampler-to-go in my purse to enjoy in the gardens before my tour started.
It was a delightful evening and I highly recommend checking out Winchester Mystery House's newly revamped Explore More tour.

Life Updates for August

Little Monster started her year as a first grader this month. I cannot believe she's already in first grade! On top of that, Lil' Boo started Preschool and has been loving it. Definitely feeling like I'm not going to be needed much anymore. 😿But this is part of the process of being a parent.
  • Nothing new on the blog...still.

Change to Newsletter Releases -
Gossip on the Final Sunday of the Month

Starting in September, instead of trying to post every third Wednesday of the month, I'll be sending out my newsletter on the last Sunday of each month.
When I first dropped my release intentions, I was most active on my computer on Wednesdays. I'm still very much in love with the pun of "webs"day, but I'm not exactly sold that I set a realistic expectation for myself. In fact, I've been trying to send this very newsletter out since last Wednesday.
With balancing work and the kids starting back up at school, I'm not quite hitting the rhythm I wanted with the goal of posting on the third Wednesday. Hopefully this change won't be too much of an annoyance to you, but might actually give you a little something to look forward to on Sundays at the end of each month.
