Be Kind to Spiders Week 2025: Spiderling Cake from Ghoul at Heart
Be Kind to Spiders Week almost ALWAYS falls around my birthday, so I decide to celebrate both events by making this spiderling cake recipe from Ghoul at Heart. I had reached out to Ghoul at Heart to help me with a unique menu for a big plan I initially had for this year’s celebrations. Plans changed, but Lori still came through with this delightfully simply yet fun recipe! When she shared it with me, I just KNEW I had to make it for my birthday.
Baking a Spiderling Cake from Ghoul at Heart
I’m not going to go into the step-by-step instructions for making this as Ghoul at Heart does it best. However, I will admit that I did deviate from her recipe a smidge. One ingredient change resulted in a hilarious result. First and foremost, I added a half cup of raspberries to her cake mix. Baking fresh fruit into cakes is one of the only ways I tend to enjoy cakes (I’m not a big cake person). Personally, I thought the raspberries in the cake would make a delightful pairing with my Pink Moon Cocktail, which I planned to enjoy on my birthday with the cake.
Finishing Touches
In relation to the finishing touches… The recipe calls for white cotton candy and spider wafer papers. I happened to already have some black spider sprinkles. It was a matter of swapping the papers for the sprinkles and I was golden. However, the spider web cotton candy that comes out at Halloween tends to be one of my favorite treats! The cotton candy is sour apple flavored and in the past, I’ve been able to stock up on it while it’s in stores or purchase it through Amazon.
Regrettably, Amazon let me down. My bag of cobweb cotton candy was overpriced and was popped during shipping. Fortunately, I didn’t let that stop me. After a little digging, I came across Tootsie.com. Apparently, the same people who make tootsie pops make my adored cobweb cotton candy! I ordered a 12 pack, but got a message saying they didn’t have enough stock to complete my order. I reached out to ask for whatever they might have left in stock. They agreed. Imagine my surprise when I received a box of 20 bags!

Crazy cotton candy quantity aside, the end results were worth it. Many thanks to Ghoul at Heart for getting into the Be Kind to Spider Week spirit to share this recipe! It was so exciting for her to share this recipe. And it did not disappoint.
