Web Walks : Be Kind to Spiders Week 2026
We’re tuning into the finer details as we go out to explore the wild by swapping our nature walks for web walks. I decided back in January that I wanted to expose myself and my family to more nature. As I suggested these monthly outings with my family, I decided to see how many spider webs I could find while out and about. In prior years, I have prided myself on finding man made webs in unexpected places. Why not do this with spider made webs out in nature?
I referenced Maggie’s Farm post, who noted six different kinds of webs you can come across; the cob web, funnel web, orb web, sheet web, mesh web and triangle web. Unfortunately, I did not find them all. Still, every cobweb discovery was a joy and before I knew it, my little ones were also joining me in the search.
Discoveries on My Web Walks
In my opinion, cobwebs and mesh webs are the same. The main difference is where they are found. Cob webs are the cluster webs around your home while mesh webs are the cluster webs you’d find in nature. In this instance, I decided to group them in the same category.
▸Cob & Mesh Webs Found: 8
▸Funnel Webs Found: 1
▸Orb Webs Found: 1
▸Sheet Webs Found: 4
▸Triangle Webs Found: 0
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any triangle webs, but I’m not entirely sure the spiders in my area weave this kind of web. All in all, I think I found some really amazing webs and now I find myself always thinking of spotting a new web while I’m out and about.
Treat Yourself to a Web Walk
Take yourself on a web walk to celebrate the week in a nature scavenger hunt. The beauty of these walks, especially right now, is that you don’t have to wander into the woods. With Spring in full swing, you should be spying several webs around your neighborhood or even around your home. See how many webs you find and which kinds you found. Then! Report back here in the comments to let me know your discoveries.
