Creating a Halloween Tree
When it comes to self-created traditions, nothing was quite as rewarding as creating a real life Halloween Tree as a new family tradition. In 2017, establishing Halloween traditions was an obsession. This coincided with preparations for the arrival of my Little Monster. Combine that with the release of Ray Bradbury’s book illustrated by Gris Grimly and my Halloween Tree was born.
Of course, I always find it important to mention that our Halloween tree is not what many talk about when they mention Halloween Tree decor. As can be seen in the photos, our tree likens to a twisted tree you might find in the haunted woods. Meanwhile, when I see others discussing Halloween trees, they’re referencing a black Christmas tree.
31 Ways to Cheers: Ghost #7 – Creating a Halloween Tree
Needless to say, the Halloween Tree was an infatuation (I blame my pregnancy brain). As such, it inspired me to incorporate all of our family heritages. The Halloween Tree provided the ideal foundation to decipher how to bring it all together. I talk about this tree every year because it has grown a special place in my heart. Those roots are so deep, I hope I never stop sharing it.
Now, our Halloween Tree comes out every year complete with lights and blooming marigolds. The littles decorate it with pumpkins on Halloween eve before the sun sets. Then it stays lit and becomes the centerpiece of our ofrenda for Day of the Dead celebrations through November 2nd.
Do you have a family tradition you created ? Or perhaps you have one that has been passed down through generations? I would love to read about it in the comments!
It is an honor to be amongst my fellow crypt keepers once more and I am so excited to crash their own countdown celebrations as the month progresses.
