Back before Midsummer Scream, I was on the hunt to make something that would be cute, yet also flattering to my then not-as-pregnant-but-still-pretty-pregnant body. I had looked for a project that would be easy to pull off with what fabric remnants I had, but of course everything I had was just a quarter-yard too short in width or mere inches too short in length. So, I broke down and went to a Joann’s for that extra length and instead bought a whole new fabric! >.<;;; I’m glad I did, because I completely fell in love with the fabric and even ended up finding a use for the scraps – a handsome bandana for my black cat, Scatcat.

This bandana just totally sells his personality and I love every time I see him in it. It makes me squeal with delight. The best part? It was super easy to make. Like…no joke. It took more time to cut it out then it did to sew it.

My mom was admiring it and asked if I could make some for her Irish Wolfhounds. Which I thought would be perfect for making a tutorial for all of you here during the countdown! No better way to bring more Halloween in your life than to accessorize your pets, yes?

What do you need?

• 1/2 yard fabric (non-directional fabric recommended)
• Matching thread
• Measuring tape
• Yard stick
• Fabric scissors
• Sewing machine or serger

How do you make it?

1. Measure you’re pet’s neck. Take that measurement and add 10″ for your total length of the bandana. For example, my mom’s dog’s neck was 21″. Making a total length of 31″. (Round up to even numbers for simple measurement purposes.)
2. Fold your fabric in half.
3. Measure half your measurement (i.e. 16″) from the fold and down along the fold to however long you want the bandana to be. I did 12″ as they’re big dogs, but you’ll have to play with it. It’s better to cut it too long and then shorten it than to cut it too short.
4. Draw a line using your yard stick from where your half measurement to the length measurement ends.
5. Cut along the line. This should give you a triangle when the fabric is both folded and unfolded.
6. If using sewing machine: set settings to zigzag stitch.
   If using serger: set settings to rolled hem.
7. Sew or serge along three edges of bandana.
8. Tie bandana on your pet and enjoy their adorableness!
