Macabre Made Me: 35 Years of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
With Elvira, Mistress of the Dark celebrating 35 years since its release on September 30th in 1988, my look is of the queen of the macabre herself.
35 Years of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true that not everyone knows the queen of camp and every tricker’s treat; Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. However, if you find yourself to be one of them, let me welcome you to the unpleasant dream that is Elvira. Originally a late night Los Angeles horror hostess, Elvira rose to pop culture fame, eventually sparking the film, “Elvira, Mistress of the Dark” which gave this character more of her origin story as she inherits an old spooky house from her late great aunt.
I find this film to be the perfect summer to autumn flick, chock full of catchy lines and horror film parodies. If you get the opportunity, definitely throw this one on the boob-tube!
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark – From the Webdrobe
My Macabre Made look is more of a reflection of all the looks inspired by Elvira. From donning her classic black dress to her Santa bodysuit to a little Mistress in Training; I have even created costumes that were Elvira with a tiki or Ghostbusters flare. It has been a genuine pleasure to dress as Elvira for over 13 years. Obviously, I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. In fact, creating fun twists like my Mistress of the Bust look have kept the passion strong.
I know I’m already planning my next Mistress of the Macabre look. Likewise, I cannot wait to add it to this awesome repertoire of costumes. Do you have a favorite look I’ve created? What Elvira-inspired theme would you be interested in seeing next?
Why Macabre Made Me?
This year, it came to my attention that many films I adore were celebrating milestones. By comparison, this felt serendipitous to my own celebration of 35 years. In light of this, I decided to pull together an outfit ensemble that took influence from these films. In like fashion, did you check out my Halloween Tree inspired look and cocktail yet?
