Be Kind to Spiders Week 2020: Knight’s Spider Web Farm
Did you know there are very special people out there who farm spider webs? It’s true! It’s an amazing skill set and I’ve been starting to see more of a rise with it, but my original knowledge of this special skill set was thanks to Atlas Obscura sharing about Knight’s Spider Web Farm. I may be mailing spider encounters, but these farmed webs are an entirely different kind of gift!
Known as the “original web site”, this specialized farm in Williamstown, Vermont has gone through it’s fair share of ups and downs, but still keeps on. Not even a fire could stop this determined family. Although it hasn’t opened up for the new year just yet, you can keep posted on the Knight farm through their website.
I would love to visit here and find out all about the process for collection of the webs and care of the spiders. It sounds like a very unique and respected balance that the Knight farmers maintain.
Have you discovered any spider-centric places? Please be sure to share them with me in the comments below! I’m always looking for spider-focused experiences. They’re a lot more challenging to discover than one might think!
