Remembering, Finding and Making Halloween Magic

October is here and I am determined to spend it remembering, finding and making the Halloween magic carved deep into my spooky soul. I was so disappointed that I left my macabre made moments collecting cobwebs in 2023. Even more so when I let my 31 ghosts to cheers to go by with empty glasses in 2024. This October, I wanted to think up something completely different from what I’d done before. Surprisingly enough, I found the direction I needed in one of my Halloween decorations.

As pictured above, this darling tin sign form Michael’s stood out to me many years ago. At this time, I felt called to fully embrace a Vintage Halloween approach in my October celebrations. “The Magic Begins October 31st” and “Midnight, Moonlight and Magic this Halloween” are the messages this sign toots. These remarks are accompanied by black cats dancing around a bonfire under a winking full moon. The phrases stood out to me then. Now, even more so. The thought that we might be approaching this whole Halloween countdown too pessimistically lingers on in my subconscious.

I have heard many a Halloween community member speak out in dread as Halloween night draws closer throughout the month. That “it was over too soon” and they “didn’t take the moment to enjoy the season”. But what if, just hear me out, we looked at this differently? Instead of counting down to the “final” day, what if we looked at it as anticipating the season’s START?

Remembering the Halloween Magic with Winchester Wanderings

I’ll be recalling Halloween magic of the past from October visits to the Winchester Mystery House every Wednesday. This place evokes such vintage Halloween whimsy for me and I love that I can experience it with my family. From an engaging Centennial speaker to family-focused events both new and old, there’s plenty to share with you!

Finding the Halloween Magic with Scavenger Hunts

I am most excited to put my own scavenger hunts to use. As Halloween draws closer, we can feel the energy growing from our collective anticipation. My hope is that these will act as a reminder to find the Halloween magic around me. I hope you will join me on this scavenger hunt to find the Halloween magic about, waiting to be uncovered.

Making the Halloween Magic in Mood-Boosting Festivities

Since I cannot make the Halloween magic in the same ways I have in the past, I’ll be making it in new ways this year. As such, you might see something things new, like my scavenger hunt. Likewise, some old things, like pumpkin patch visits will be unveiled. I am just as excited as you to see in what ways I’ll be making the Halloween magic.

In conclusion, I’d like to take this moment to remind you to do the same. Don’t forget what Halloween magic is within you, how you uncover it and what are the ways you enjoy creating your own. For us October people, this is a genuinely enchanting time. However, I do think more of us need the reminder to actually immerse ourselves in the moment. It it my hope that this serves as your sign to do just that!
