Be Kind to Spiders Week 2025: Watercolor Webs with Monster & Boo

Little Monster and Lil’ Boo joined in on the fun by painting these beautiful watercolor webs to display above our springtime mantle. Earlier on during my brainstorming stage, I came across Andrea Nealson’s watercolor project tutorial. The best part for me? That it was a watercolor project. I took a watercolor class many years ago, but haven’t painted since the littles were born. Adrea’s project felt like easy projects to do with my little spooks too! Additionally, it has been a while since I shared a decor project. More importantly, I have never done a Be Kind to Spiders Week project WITH the littles.

I tested out all three of her projects, but only ended up doing two of them with my littles. When I tried the one on black paper with the salt, it just didn’t seem to work right. Plus, when I reached out for more clarification on the steps, I didn’t get an answer. On the other hand, the two we did work on turned out lovely.

To begin with, we worked on the black glue watercolor webs. Sadly, Andrea didn’t mention how she colored the glue in her video. For this instance, I added black acrylic paint to a small Elmer’s glue bottle. In hindsight, there must be some other way to do this because the glue took forever to dry. Plus, once we painted over with watercolors, the black bled a tiny bit into the colors. I’m not sure if I added too much paint to the glue or if I should have added something else.

Secondly, we worked on the white crayon watercolor web project. Ironically, we couldn’t find our normal white crayons, so we found a glitter one. It worked ok. Unfortunately, the crayon we used wasn’t thick enough to keep the watercolors from seeping on one of the paintings. Still, Little Monster’s turned out very well and Lil’ Boo didn’t seem to care that his web didn’t show.

Now that both projects were dried, I cut them out, framed them in Dollar Tree frames and hung them over our mantle. Without a doubt, I loved how easy these were to do and how lovely they look on display. Anyone I’ve shown these off to have been surprised they were done by the littles. I’m not sure if it’s the frames, but I’m certainly one proud little mama!

Multiple interests and resourceful optimism keeps this mama of two always at the ready for life's next adventure. Meet your hostess here.
